Roofing, Siding, Windows, Doors, Gutters and Decks in Mullica Hill

The median home in Harrison Township was built in 1997, per the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey. If that house still has its first roof, the roof is about 29 years old. On an asphalt shingle roof that age, curled shingles and lost granules are common signs of wear. Closer to Main Street, the houses are far older, and the township's Historic Preservation Commission reviews exterior work there.

DRK Roofing and Siding is a roofing contractor serving Clayton and the rest of South Jersey. Mullica Hill is part of our service area, and roof replacement and roof repair are most of our work. We also handle siding, windows, exterior doors, gutters and decks. Call or text (856) 449-4674 for a free estimate.

Tell us about the roof, siding, windows, doors, gutters or deck and where the job is. We look at it and put a free estimate in writing.

Harrison Township homes and the age of their roofs

Harrison Township counted 13,641 people at the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau's estimate for July 2025 is 14,043. The township authorized 69 new single-family homes in 2025 alone.

Nearly 9 in 10 homes here are single-family detached houses, and 91 percent are owner-occupied. About 4 in 10 went up in 2000 or later. Another 37 percent date to the 1980s and 1990s. Houses built in the same years tend to reach roof age together.

New Jersey's code requires the old roof to come off when it already has two layers. It also requires a tear-off when the old roof is water soaked or too worn to serve as a base. We check the roof deck once the old shingles come off, and the job ends with the final cleanup.

Older homes in the Mullica Hill Historic District

The Mullica Hill Historic District is on the National and State Registers. It centers on Main Street, from Route 322 south to the fork at Bridgeton Pike. Its National Register nomination counted 136 contributing buildings on about 68 acres, most of them frame buildings with wood siding.

The village grew on two slopes that drop about 70 feet to Raccoon Creek. The nomination says the original wood shingle roofs were covered with asphalt shingles, a few with standing seam metal. Main Street runs about a mile through the village and crosses the creek on a bridge.

Under the township's rules, exterior work on a district property visible from any street needs a Certificate of Appropriateness. That covers roofs and siding, plus replacement windows and doors. Applications go to the commission's secretary 10 days before the meeting where you want them heard. Work cannot begin until the certificate is approved.

Do you need a permit for roof work in Harrison Township?

For most houses, no. New Jersey's code calls the repair or replacement of roof covering on detached one- and two-family homes ordinary maintenance. That means no permit and no notice to the construction office.

Siding on one- and two-family homes is on that list too. So are gutters, and windows or doors replaced in the same opening. Roofs on attached townhouses are not on the list, so ask the office first.

A new deck is different and needs a construction permit. The Harrison Township construction office in the municipal building on Bridgeton Pike handles deck permits. Projects that change a building's footprint may also need zoning approval.

Wind damage and the 2021 Mullica Hill tornado

On September 1, 2021, the remnants of Hurricane Ida produced an EF-3 tornado in Gloucester County. The National Weather Service put its peak wind at 150 mph. It tracked 12.6 miles, from near Harrisonville through Mullica Hill to near Deptford.

The weather service survey found homes that lost roofs and upper story walls. Most storms here are far smaller, but strong wind still lifts shingles and bends flashing. A lifted shingle can let water in before any stain shows inside.

After a hard wind, look for shingles in the yard and bare spots on the roof. Then check for siding pulled loose and new stains on the ceilings. Call or text us for roof repair after wind damage, and we email a written estimate before any work starts.

Dominic and the crew at DRK Roofing were wonderful to deal with. They replaced our roof and gutters and it all looks great. Dominic was responsive throughout the whole process and he showed up when he said he would, and did what he said he would. Made the whole process smooth and the roof was done in just over half a day. 100% recommend!

Mullica Hill FAQ

Questions We Hear Around Mullica Hill

A few of the questions we hear most around Mullica Hill. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (856) 449-4674

Is Mullica Hill part of your service area?
Yes. Mullica Hill and the rest of Harrison Township, including Richwood and Ewan, are part of our service area. Clayton sits at the center of that area, which covers Gloucester County and parts of the counties around it.
What does a new roof cost in Mullica Hill?
It depends on the roof. Size and pitch matter, and so do the layers coming off and any rotted deck boards. Flashing at chimneys and walls adds work, and in the historic district the commission reviews materials. We look at the roof, then email you a detailed written estimate.
Does Mullica Hill's historic commission review a roof replaced in kind?
Yes, by the township's own instructions. A Certificate of Appropriateness application is required even for replacement in kind. The commission, not the owner, decides what counts as in kind. Check with the commission before you schedule exterior work on a district property.
Can you look at my roof after a storm?
Yes. Call or text (856) 449-4674 and we set a time to come out. We check the shingles and flashing, then the siding and gutters. You get a written estimate for the repair by email.
Do you work on siding and gutters in Mullica Hill too?
Yes. We handle siding replacement in vinyl and fiber cement, plus gutters and downspouts. We also install windows and exterior doors, and we build decks. In the historic district, the commission reviews siding changes as well, so start there.
