When Does a Sewell Roof Need Replacing?

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey puts the median year built for Washington Township homes at 1982. About 87 percent of homes here were built before 2000. The 1980s added the most, about 28 percent of today's homes. Only about 4 percent date from 2010 or later.

Washington Township's Department of Code Enforcement and Inspections enforces the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Its office is on Egg Harbor Road in Sewell.

Under state code, some exterior jobs on one- and two-family homes count as ordinary maintenance, with no permit or notice. That list covers roof covering on detached homes, siding replacement, same-size window and door swaps, and gutters. Polypropylene siding is the one siding exception. Confirm your job with the township office before work starts.
