Williamstown still has houses built before 1940, and new homes keep going up around it. The median home here dates to 1981, by Census estimates. On older roofs, trouble shows up as curled shingles, loose chimney flashing or a stain on an upstairs ceiling. After a hard wind, shingles in the yard are often the first sign.
DRK Roofing and Siding is a roofing contractor serving Clayton and the rest of South Jersey. Monroe Township borders Clayton, and Williamstown is part of our service area. We do roof replacement on homes of every age in town, and roof repair for leaks and storm damage. Call or text (856) 449-4674 for a free estimate. We come out to look at the roof, then email you a detailed estimate.
Tell us about the roof, siding, windows, doors, gutters or deck and where the job is. We look at it and put a free estimate in writing.
Williamstown is the largest community in Monroe Township, on the eastern edge of Gloucester County. The 2020 Census counted 15,082 people in Williamstown and 37,117 in the township. The town started out as Squankum and took the name Williamstown with a new post office in 1842.
Census estimates show the 1970s as the township's biggest building decade, with about 3,200 homes. Roughly 4,700 more went up in the 1990s and 2000s. About seven in ten homes are single-family detached houses, and most are lived in by their owners.
Most of the township's oldest homes, the ones built before 1940, sit inside Williamstown itself. Older houses can hide two layers of shingles or tired roof boards. A house from the 1990s or 2000s may still carry its first roof, with flashing and vents just as old.
Every New Jersey town enforces the same state code, the Uniform Construction Code, through its own construction office. For Williamstown, that is the Monroe Township construction office in the township's municipal building.
The state code lists some work as ordinary maintenance, which needs no permit and no notice to the town. Replacing the roof covering on a detached one- or two-family home is on that list. So are most siding jobs on those homes and window or door swaps in the same opening.
That roofing line names detached homes only. For attached townhouses and apartment buildings, start with the construction office. New Jersey has a second Monroe Township, in Middlesex County, so make sure you reach the Gloucester County office.
Monroe Township is still growing. Census permit data show 209 new single-family homes authorized here in 2025, after 150 in 2024. The township also authorized a 75-unit apartment building in 2024.
We do a lot of roofing on apartment complexes and new construction, for builders and property managers. See our commercial roofing page for flat and shingle systems on larger buildings.
The Black Horse Pike ties the township together. Route 42 follows the Pike through Cross Keys into Williamstown, where U.S. Route 322 takes over. Homes along the Pike, from Cross Keys down to Cecil, are part of our service area.
Monroe Township is one of two Gloucester County towns that reach into the state Pinelands Area. Where a house sits under pines or oaks, needles and leaves pile up in roof valleys and gutters. Wet debris holds water against shingles and fascia boards.
Gutters that overflow dump water by the foundation and wear out the fascia. We install new gutters and downspouts and repair the ones already up.
The rest of the outside of the house is our work too. We handle siding, replacement windows, exterior doors and decks on Williamstown homes. One visit can cover all of it on a single written estimate.
